GoLdFish TraSH BaGs

Tuesday, July 21, 2009 | 0 Comments

The only best thing about these bags is that they are completely biodegradable as they are made from oxo-biodegradable plastic.
But those who like fish would certainly love the chore of taking the trash out once you get these bags. For the remaining few like me, we are much happy with our plain dull trash bags. These unique Novelty Goldfish trash bags are available here for $15.99. [Random Good Stuff]

Who wouldn't want to adopt this "cute 'n' cuddly" puppy?

Thanks to the lack of fur, he does not shed and is very easy to clean.

Also, you can be sure that no one will trespass on your property while this pooch will be standing guard.

RiDe To WoRK DaY

Wednesday, June 10, 2009 | 0 Comments

The annual RTW Day moves to the ‘third Monday in June.’ The next Ride to Work Day is MONDAY, JUNE 15, 2009. It is the 18th annual Ride to Work Day.

Reasons for an earlier annual Ride to Work Day include:
  • The new day is not as hot in most northern hemisphere areas, and not as cold in most southern hemisphere areas. June weather is more favorable worldwide.

  • The new day provides an increased opportunity for more riders to Ride to Work. Many workplaces close for summer holiday in July - especially in Europe.

  • A Monday event encourages motorcycle and scooter commuting to continue during the entire week.

  • Positive media exposure will increase. Sundays are slower ‘news days’ so there will be more coverage like this: “Look for more motorcycles on your commute tomorrow, as Monday is the annual Ride to Work day...”

  • The Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) has endorsed this day, and is promoting the ‘Third Monday in June’ worldwide as the annual Ride to Work Day.

This way of thinking brought a criminal right to the police. During the investigation of a burglary at a home in Pinole California, officers heard a cellphone ring. On the other end a man asks "Hey, did you find my phone?"

Realizing that this might be a cellphone accidentally left at the scene by the burglar, Officer Uri Nieves played along and offered to return the phone at a local Boys and Girls Club. Criminal mastermind Antony Ramirez arrived at the scene at the predetermined time in a stolen Nissan 350Z and was promptly swarmed by police, but he managed to flee the scene on foot. Later, the police discovered that Ramirez was also wanted for a shooting death last year.

The police eventually caught up with him thanks to the fact that Ramirez was unable to put 2 and 2 together regarding the cellphone drop-off. He continued to text message the phone in an attempt to arrange a meeting to get it back. Unfortunately for us, the reports fail to mention what brand of cellphone was so damn important that a wanted murderer was willing to stick his neck out to get it back. [Gizmodo]

One day, this funny drawing captured my attention as I was walking in the historic part of Bucharest, Romania. I can fully understand that officers can be sometimes off topic, but in this case, maybe some young people are protesting against the "disabled" police and are trying to save police-men, as the drawing states: "SAVE THE POLICE".

Tuesday, the 2nd of June 2009. This day seems to be normal, like every other day, a little bit of sunshine, some small clouds across the sky, nothing unusual seems to happen. As it gets dark, gigantic clouds gather all over the sky and a huge storm is about to begin. Maybe the biggest I experienced, since I live in Bucharest, Romania. Strong winds are starting to blow, gigantic rain-drops fall from up above, as well as hail. In less than an hour, in Bucharest at least 425 trees, masts, houses and cars were destroyed. The weather is playing crazy, really bad.

Below you can find a set of pictures, of what the city looked like minutes after the storm struck. Find more pictures at PicasaWebAlbums.

A U.S. farmer grabs a chainsaw and decides to chop down this huge tree that stands in front of his house. Unfortunately, the man should have read, maybe a little bit more about this dangerous activity, as he proves he has no talent as a lumberjack. So, the unfortunate effect of his action: the tree tilts in the wrong direction and falls directly on his house. [Break.com]

A nice image of a Dog Parking Place was spotted by Ovi in Dresden, Germany, a few days ago. If you take your dog out for a walk and want to go shopping, do not hesitate to park your dog just outside the store. It's something that looks like a hook where you can immobilize the dog with the leash. In my opinion this is really, really crazy and funny.

Here is one more of those funny signs that I recently discovered in Bucharest, Romania. As a driver, what questions would go through you mind when you see a sign like this?!

Bionic penguins that travel underwater independently. Bionic flying penguins. Robotic arms made of fiberglass rods with free will. Molecubes that assemble into infinite-growing robots. All for real, as this video shows. I'm leaving the planet.

Sure, it's an infomercial about this company called Festo, but it's impressive nonetheless. Like other tech companies, they are getting its inspiration from nature to create new robotic concepts, working relentlessly to create the robots that will kill us all one day. Good. [Geeks Are Sexy]

For the last 30 years, Fred Baier has been making some strange and wonderful commissioned furniture. Here is his Dual Quad desk—a real world transformer, if the toys were only made out of wood.

Constructed of stained and lacquered birch, this robot desk features a multifunction "roll top" and drop leaf design. I love that it's equally suitable for books as a flat panel monitor.

It costs a bit over $16,000—which is probably fair, considering there are but three units in existence. Check out more of Baier's remarkable portforlio here: Baier [Bornrich]

It's pretty much a standard wine glass size at 19 x 6,5 cm or 7.5" x 2.7".

A light bulb, shaped like a wine glass, containing 20 warm white high intensity LED's that should last a good 10 years. That’s pretty lovely and really unusual.

So pop the wine, get out a couple glasses and enjoy a long and romantic evening! Cheers!

On may 19th, at the American Museum of Natural History in New York, a revolutionary discovery - one that will stand as a milestone for paleontologists and evolutionists everywhere - was announced.

Scientists based at the University of Oslo have discovered “Ida,” also known as Darwinius masillae, a 47-million-year-old fossil that has been proclaimed the “missing link” in connecting human skeletal structure to early mammals.

Scientists found Ida in Messel Pit, Germany and soon found out that she is about twenty times older than most fossils related to human evolution. What makes Ida so special is that despite her classification as an early prosimian (lemurs), she has certain undeniable human characteristics such as forward facing eyes and even an opposable thumb.

This is an exciting and validating day for scientists everywhere. Broadcaster and naturalist Sir David Attenborough has said: “This little creature is going to show us our connection with all the rest of the mammals.” [The Link]

I'm so very glad this gadget didn't come out ten years ago, or my parents would have used it to set my computer usage at 15 minute increments, allowing me to never reach a save point.

The GameDr can beep warnings at T-10 and T-1 minutes, hopefully to let them reach a checkpoint and turn the game off gracefully.

Why wouldn't your kids be smart enough to just take the power cord off and plug it in directly to the power strip? Because it's "tamper proof", which means they'll have to break part of it to get to the cable.

It can be purchased for $30 this June. [Digital Innovations]

It’s known that violence sells as well today, as it did 2000 years ago. Every day, in TV or in press articles there has to be something violent. In Japan, however, huge gains made from violent sports have led to the invention of the most stupid and also the bloody sport of recent years ... neon fights.

Pictures below were taken during a wrestling match, where several opponents fought against each other, in an arena which in the end, looked like after real war. The fighters did not hesitate to strike with bunches of neon tubes, until their bodies were completely covered in blood. In such a situation, we can only imagine the pain caused by the thousands of very small broken glass pieces and probably the mercury intoxication they had, after breaking the tubes.

The Colgao

This morbid lamp was created by design studio Enpieza in Spain. The Colgao (”hung” in Spanish) is hanging from the top horizontal rod of the lamp. The lamp looks very simple except for the tasteless, hanging anthropomorphic figure. Either the designers were fresh out of ideas or they are into black humor.

The Light Drop

Created by Brazilian designer Rafael Morgan, the Light Drop takes decorative lighting options to a new level of creativity. This watery light features a tap oozing out of a big drop of lighted water. Another trait that adds into the mystery of this unique light is the way it controls the illumination. It is the tap that doubles up as the dimmer in this case. Just turn it around and you can control the effects.

Mannequim Lamps

Called At Your Command, these really cool lamps can be manipulated into different postures as they are jointed. By Daniel Loves Objects.

The Liquid Lamp

After a brief shot at being practical and ingenious, the Japanese are back to being weird again with this morbid and messy yet minimalist lamp from DCS Corp. Designed by Kouichi Okamoto, the Liquid Lamp is made of steel and comes equipped with a 25-watt bulb. The puddle of red stuff is actually the lamp’s stand, so from a distance it looks like the lamp is floating.

Darth Vader Lamp

Seriously, how cool is this lamp? You can order the lamp from Collectors Gallery for $39.95.
